Coronavirus Effects on Canadian Immigration

As a blogger I decided to write a blog on Effects of COVID-19 on Canadian immigration and believe me, that blog would have been very very different from what I am currently writing. If you are reading this after things are normal then it is going to sound kind of amazing and fun.

The beginning of the year 2020 wasn't all that great. Starting from the in Australian bushfire, Global economic slowdown to the novel coronavirus breakout, we have gone through a lot. The 2019–20 Coronavirus pandemic has been in the news for quite a long time due to its dire nature of spreading like a weed into the society from one infected person to another. By this time, almost everyone of us knows what COVID 19 is. What are its symptoms? ways to prevent it, precaution to be taken etc. World's governments are doing everything in their power to stop the spread for which there has been lock-down in more than one hundred countries as I'm writing. Medical and healthcare system is working hard around the clock to eradicate the virus and cure patients. And there are many people right now, who are at home, thinking about when the situation will get better so that they can continue with their business, work as planned. This blog is going to focus on some of the main topics on the Canadian immigration standpoint.

Status quo for Canadian Immigration dream

I'm sure there are a lot of students, working professionals, and families who are aspiring to apply for Canadian Study/work visa also planning to file application for Permanent Resident but due to this unprecedented Global Pandemic disease outbreak, people are helpless and reconsidering, postponing their plans which is very obvious in today's situation. I hope people would advocate the fact that we put a lot of things at stake when we make immigration decisions. 

Just like many affected countries, Canada has closed down their borders allowing only Canadian citizens and PR holders and some foreign nationals travelling from the United States (US) who have been in the US for at least 14 days and are asymptomatic, are able to enter Canada by air at this time. Although the rule was amended that they are allowing students and immigrants having valid visa and permanent address (Place to stay) in Canada but  still these exemptions are under consideration.

Conclusion? We have to wait and watch. No one knows what is coming.

Economical Impacts on Canadian Economy

Those Loonie and Toonies have now depreciated

The Canadian Dollar has depreciated a little so as other currencies. But the Justin Trudeau government has done a commendable job to save the economy and stop currency depreciation. Even though the government has passed a bill to support small businesses and daily wages workers financially, it is still going to impact the economy in the long run.  

Hundreds, if not thousands of immigrants working on daily wages have lost their jobs which is obvious as there is no demand for work and employers are abstaining to keep’em on payroll causing financial burden on workers. It has become difficult to live in such an expensive country without survival jobs which earn you money for your regular grocery and pay rent.
Not just Canadian economy, the world economy is also heading downwards. Almost all the countries today have been affected due to this deadly virus and it is going to get worst before it gets better. New businesses, start-up are going to suffer this huge economic recession all over the world. (May be except China). Very few, if none, job openings would engender cut-throat competition in the job market. It is definitely going to affect the opportunities for the future aspiring immigrants and future immigration in these western countries.

Who is to blame?

The virus starts its journey from the city Wuhan in China. At least that is what most of us have been told. It is a very controversial topic to touch as world governments and healthcare bodies will definitely find out the main reason and culprit behind this pandemic. But it has made massive difference in the attitude of people worldwide towards Asian community. They certainly should not be blamed for this; especially those who have been part of our societies since very long time. We should condemn such behavior and fight against this tough time collaboratively.
